Bids will be solicited in April for the conversion of Quinta Mazatlan into the McAllen Wing of The World Birding Center. David Richter, architect for the project reported to the McAllen City Commission in February that construction should begin in late May and be complete in Decmber. The project will be divided into an initial phase to accommodate birding enthusiasts, while the second phase will convert the remainder of the 1937 historic adobe mansion into a reception center.
